Message: This is our first yr. at Wilburn and my son by far has the best 1st grade teacher, Ms. L My son is striving, he works hard for his points, he loves school, he loves to be challenged and he won an award for reading, and his teacher plus his hard work is the reason for his success. My 6 yr old is in speech therapy, OT therapy, and eye therapy outside of school every week and he is making so much progress, thanks to Ms. L and his therapist for working hard with him and pushing him to keep trying and never letting him give up. The principle is very involved with the kids, she's dedicated to those kids, and they love her. The only major issue I have, is my sons bus driver, the route is Wilburn ES 02 he needs to be retrained on working w children in a stressful enviroment (the bus) we have spoke to him several times, he shrugs his shoulders, he doesn't care. My son was hit many times on the bus and anytime my son would tell the driver, he was sent back to the seat, ignored, or wrote up and thats uncalled for. No my sons not perfect no one is but when you see in person how the bus driver treats the parents then you know he's not treating the kids very well. We have sent notes about our concern, and he hasn't done anything. If he ignores the parents concerns, he's ignoring the children's needs. Other children from the neighborhood says its happening daily but for some reason the driver calls out my son. Mrs. Bond works in the front office, she has to be the sweetest person I have ever met, shes calm at all times, she's a very busy lady, and has done so much for us and our son's. Their is one other lady who works in the office beside the nurse station. I met her the first day, she helped us register our boys and has been so helpful with all our questions. Those are the folks that I know and have actually talked too.. This school is safe, teachers seem like they really care about our children and we are pleased with everything we are seeing.. Hope they have more family activites so we can get to know the staff better because my 6 yr old enjoyed the skating event. I only gave 4 stars because of the bus driver but the school I will give 5 stars.
